On Saturday, we celebrated Calvin's 5th birthday with family and friends. Our little nature enthusiast chose a bug-catching party at Dodge Nature Center this year. This party was definitely not for the insect squeamish! I should have warned the attendees to wear bug spray and long socks!
The boys followed Colin, the Nature Center naturalist, out to the prairie to search for flying, hopping, and crawling creatures. They were instructed to use a sweeping mention with their nets to rile up the bugs.
William had success catching a dragonfly!
There he goes! This is serious business.
This young deer was munching on some apples in the orchard when we wandered by. He has been residing in the nature center since he was a fawn and, therefore, doesn't mind the occasional hiker stopping to watch him eat lunch.
